Three (3) or more years as a marine Shipfitter.



  • Must be a US Citizen or a Permanent Resident

  • Must be able to pass a 3 month hair follicle drug screen

Job Description:

Shipfitters are responsible for the use of various tools and equipment in the fabrication, assemble and erection of metal parts for the construction of modular units utilized in the various stages of the building of a marine vessel. Capable of operating a grinder and passing a tack welding assessment test. Able to read a tape measure (standard and metric); have experience in the use of a hand torch, hydraulic and ratchet jacks along with chain falls and come-a-longs; familiar with hand tools such as combination squares, framing squares, hand levels and plumb bobs used in the marine and construction environments; capable of utilizing various beveling and burning equipment; have knowledge of basic blue prints; able to fit flat butt with little or no supervision. Knowledge of setting and erecting units; knowledge of the use of Datum Lines, familiar with fit up and alignment tolerances; advanced blue print reading skills;


Testing Information:

Test time is 4 hours total; 2 hour written and 2 hour hands-on.

WRITTEN-Must be able to read blue prints, complete math equations (fractions), read tape measure, definition lines, symbols, identify tools, determine plate thickness and material drawings.

HANDS ON- Read blue print to build drawing of box. Instructor is inspecting how SF sets up weld machines, burns, layout, fit square, arch strike tack and clean-up. Weld gas used is Propylene, please ask if experienced using this type of gas. Also, note tack and not weld, inspects for 3/16" tack and clean slag.

MUST understand English (interpreters are present to help with written test).

NO tools required but proper PPE and dress is required (no tears or rips in jeans, long sleeve shirt, etc...) Ensure SF and welders have sharpened soap stone for markings.

Basic Qualifications:

This is a construction environment involving extreme heights, confined spaces, physical labor and various weather conditions within a shipyard environment. Must be able to work assigned shift as production needs. 3-5 years of marine, shipbuilding or construction experience. Tech Master Certification, High School Graduate or Equivalent.
